February 29 – Mark 8:31-33
Feb 29th, 2012 by Sherri

Prayer: Pray for the community with whom you follow God’s Christ.

Today’s devotional talks about how we are sometimes headstrong and want our own way. We can be obstinate…  In the text, Peter was that way and rebuked Jesus.  Jesus, in front of the disciples, corrected Peter and told him to be about the concerns of God and not those of man. During this Lenten season, what are we doing to honor our covenant with God?  Are we focused on giving up something or are we about service and acts of mercy? Are we truly doing God’s work?

It was through Abraham’s faith that he received the promise that he and his offspring would be the heir of the world.  Abraham “hoped against hope” that God would fulfill His promise and bring something out of nothing.  God can call into existence things that do not exist.  Before you give up on your dreams, remember that a covenant relationship with God bears the hope of new beginnings.

God made a covenant with Abraham.  The covenant had nothing to do with Abraham’s good deeds, but because  Abraham trusted God.
God, likewise, made a covenant with us.  We must trust God at God’s word believing that God will do everything God says.  In doing this, we must stretch out on faith knowing that whatever the situation God will bring us through.  In the next forty days, we must go all the way knowing God will  bring us through whatever we are in stonger than when we started, stonger than we thought possible.

John baptized Jesus for ministry and the Holy Spirit empowered Him. John preached repentance and baptism; Jesus preached and lived the Word. The Word is the good news that God loves us and God has provided salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. We are to identify with Jesus and follow in His footsteps: be baptized, live righteous, and share the good news.

What do you do when you find yourself in a place where you have just found out your job has been cut?  Well, most of us fall apart and blame others for our misfortune.  We are in the “wilderness of life”.   Life experiences are things we have to live with.  Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days!  How would you like to be in the wilderness with Satan following you around?  He did not blame God for his situation.  Instead he prayed.  We forget to go to the Father in prayer because we get caught up in life experiences.  The issues don’t go away, but you can find peace in knowing God is with you.  God will be with you every step of the way.  That is what I believe.  Hallelujah!
