As Hurricane Irene approaches the Eastern part of the United States many people are stocking up supplies in case of power outages. Other East Coast residents are preparing to evacuate the area. Despite all the reports of the severity of this storm and with New Orleans still dealing with the affects of Katrina some residents in critical areas refuse to leave.

I’ve heard some say they will trust in God to see them through this storm. I believe God is a present help in a time of danger, however, God also wants us to be smart. Doing nothing when you know danger is approaching is testing God. It suggests that God did not give us brains and abilities to do anything for ourselves. God will protect us, heal us, and delivers us. Sometimes that happens by way of using our God given abilities. Remember when Jesus fasted in the wilderness and Satan told him to jump off the mountain and the angels would rescue him. Jesus knew that no harm would come to him but to jump would be testing God.

I’m all for trusting in the Lord to see me through, I just believe that sometimes it happens by using what I’ve been given.
