Surprise
Jul 29th, 2011 by DR3

I’ve been training in Muay Thai (kickboxing with elbows and knees) for a year now and it has taught me some valuable lessons. You can practice kicking, punching, and avoiding strikes and most of the time you will be ale to handle yourself.   However, if someone catches you with a strike you didn’t expect your training goes out the window. Unfortunately, you can’t train your chin, therefore, you need something more than technique. Strength and condition training can sometimes help you recover from a devastating blow. Then, there are times when you just get caught with a blow and the fight is over.

Life is just like a Muay Thai fight. You can prepare yourself for life through prayer, education, and family support and this training can help you through most predicaments. however, sometimes life throws an unexpected blow. When you get kicked with a roundhouse from the unexpected circumstances of life all of your preparation may not be enough. That’s when you need an X factor. It’s good to have Jesus as your corner man giving you encouragement, instructions, and help.

Do everything in your power to prepare for what life may throw at you but more importantly make sure you have Jesus in your corner.

Compromise
Jul 22nd, 2011 by DR3

Right now Republican and Democratic leaders are trying to figure out how to raise the U.S. debt ceiling.  The problem is they cannot agree on what to cut or add.  Republicans would like to cut funding for several social programs that help the poor. Democrats would like to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans.  Something must be done by August 2nd or we could enter the second “Great Depression.’  The only way to solve this issue is for both sides to compromise.

Compromise is a part of life.  No one should always get their way. When it happens in a relationship it can create resentment which leads to tension in the relationship. Life is about giving and receiving. In fact, the Bible says it is “…More blessed to give than to receive.” There is nothing wrong with compromising in order to create harmony as long as we are not giving up our core values.  The truth of the matter is that our God was willing to compromise in that “God so love the world that HE gave HIS only SON that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

The Heat Is Here
Jul 16th, 2011 by DR3

Meteorologists are predicting seven straight days with the heat index over 100 degrees.  Unfortunately, not everyone has air conditioning and water many not be easily accessible to some people.  It almost seems strange that many of us will only drink water from a bottle while others would gladly drink the very tap water that we avoid.

Jesus told his follower that giving water to the thirsty is the same as giving to me.  That’s why the Church of Jesus Christ must do everything in its power to clothe the naked, feed the hungry and give water to the thirsty.  Especially in weather like this.
