Several people have asked about Covenant Discipleship. Many thought that accepting the invitation to become a member meant that you were also pledging to be a covenant disciple. There is a difference.
Membership is not less meaningful than covenant discipleship but there is a distinction. Membership here at St. James means you’ve accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, and you are aligning yourself with the overall ministry here at St. James. As a member you are pledging to support St. James with your prayers, presence, resources, and gifts and St. James will support you.
On the other hand, Covenant Discipleship means that you have reached a certain level in your walk with Jesus and you are ready to make a strong commitment. The commitment is to tithe to HIS CHURCH, to be actively engaged in ministry here at St. James, to be a part of a weekly Bible study, and to worship here at St. James each week.
Jesus told the apostles to make disciples so it is my hope that we can follow the mandate of Jesus and do just that. Our goal, if we follow the teachings of Jesus, is discipleship.
