On Friday my sons will be finished with school. Next week I will take them to Springfield, Mo with me for the UMC Missouri Annual Conference. Once we come back from Springfield our summer will take off. We have Freedom School, vacations, basketball camp, and my oldest son will go to Canada as a student ambassador.

I’m looking forward to our time in Springfield. It will be the fellas hanging out and watching the NBA finals in the evening. I envision our ride to and from Springfield packed with conversations about growing up and life in general.

I know that we are all busy in today’s “go go go” culture. But make sure you take the time to have meaningful conversations with your children. That advice is for me just as much as it is for you.

On the day of Pentecost God’s promise of the Holy Spirit was fulfilled.  It was when the followers of Jesus received the Holy Spirit that Church was born.  You see, we cannot be the Church-the Body of Christ- unless we have exactly what Jesus has.  So when the Holy Spirit was poured out on believers a new movement began.  That movement would become known as the Christian Church.

On May 23rd St. James will celebrate the birth of the Church.  In the tradition of this movement we are asking everyone to invite 3 non church members.  If you read Acts 2 you will see that 3000 people joined the Church on the day of Pentecost.  That was the example that every church of every age is supposed to follow.  People came to know Jesus on the day of Pentecost.  Our hope is that St. James will do our part in celebrating what Pentecost is all about.
